I
looked forward to the movie when I saw the shots. And when I saw
it I can't say I was disappointed. Then again, I can't say I was
intrigued either. Regime Of Terror is packed full of great
visuals, doubled together with terrific animation and a good
premise. Yet ROT suffers for the flaw I can't shake off, the
flaw the bothered me above all else: the abruptness of the
film's ending. ROT seems to be building up to something
throughout, especially through the use of the depressed HMC's
and the distinctly odious grey filter. This is only reinforced
further by the animation itself, fluid and smooth wherever
needed.
Having said that, ROT, although it felt like a precursor, was
and is a very well-crafted short, blending good direction and
thoughtful themes together. For argument's sake, HMC knows when
to quit, hitting us with new visionary imminence scene by scene.
Great stuff.
