Haha,
oh boy. Where to start. In all honesty, I just finished watching
the film for the first time. I've been hearing about Moderately
Confused for some time now, but never really bothered to view
it's predecessor.
Well, I'm glad I did... kinda. It's an enjoyable cops and
robbers comedy about a bank robber who is completely ignorant on
how to rob a bank. To make things worse, the team of cops trying
to arrest him have about the same IQ. This little mix provides
some nice comedy, be it at a fairly slow pace.
Beginning with the most important part, the jokes. The idea is
fun, and that in itself is amusing. The robber with a bag over
his head is your basic moron, reminiscent of the three goons
from 3 Ninjas robbing the convenience store. He is, of course,
funny to observe. The chief is an enjoyable character as well.
There are a lot of funny jokes, and I'll be truthful, I don't
know which are "stolen" and which are not. I recognized the taxi
bit (but that's used a lot) and the SILENT ALARM ACTIVATED, but
that's it. Either way, there were some very funny parts that I
enjoyed quite a bit. Specifically, the old guy. It's the tiny,
subtle things that make me laugh. When the old guy stops, and
his body moves just a little bit and falls on the handle bars, I
just started laughing. It was priceless, and I really can't
explain why. The situation with the chief and the picture of him
and his wife on the wall was also well played and made me laugh.
There were also a few jokes that didn't make me laugh, one being
the Michael Jackson bit. I was very interested when the FRAGILE
box came through the door, and the cop went on about the horror
of what they had to do, but then the chief made a comment about
"little boys" and my smile turned to a line. I did smirk when
Jackson saw the little boy though. The subtle spin of Jackson
and the sight of the boy facing away just made me smile...
Granted, I am watching this much later than from when it was
made, and perhaps I would have enjoyed it more back when it came
out and not now when Michael Jackson has been beaten to death,
but either way. Obviously one unfunny joke isn't going to ruin
the movie for me. Also, I did laugh when Michael Jackson was in
the prison cell at the end, but not because it was Michael
Jackson, because it was a fun play on coincidence and quite
humorous.
The hostage situation was pleasing as well, where the man was
begging for his life. The robber was pissed off, the cop was
pissed off, and hell, even I was pissed of. It's not very often
I can relate to two 3D models shaped like people. It was an
enjoyable event, and it shows that the director had the audience
in mind when making most of his jokes.
The people within the bank seem to represent the only piece of
sanity in the film. This is a very important part to have in a
comedy. After all, if everybody is insane, then whose to say
they're NOT sane? The comments from the hostages and the bank
employees helps contrast the idiocy of the robber, and it
provides a comedic comparison.
The voice acting. I almost forgot. It suited the film and did
it's job. No complaints here. It was believable and that's what
counts.
There are a lot of funny bits in this movie, and I'm really not
going to go through and dissect them all. All in all, it's a
fairly good comedy. Basic, yes, and a bit slow. The movie could
fit in a smaller time slot quite easily, and still retain it's
comedy gold. But who's to say all movies should be as short as
physically possible? I'm starting to contradict myself. My point
is, this movie is funny. If you want to laugh, go watch it. It's
no king of comedies, but I assure you, it will not disappoint.
