Mario Saga

Reviewed by Jason Meckes

First off, let me say that I have a decent MIDI card and a Windows 98 OS. Simply put - I loved this movie. The music choices were top notch (Again, as long as your MIDI card isn't a piece of yak vomit), the pacing was rather good, the humor was well done, and the animation more than rivals anything on the market today. While at times the text was a bit tough to read, some of the mic recordings weren't top quality, and editing towards the end took a bit of a dive (Oh,... pun?), that does not distract from the movie's overall enjoyment. I found myself chuckling at a few parts, loving the main characters, oggling at the beautiful EVERYTHINGs, listening to the music after finishing, respecting the fine voice work, and then going back and watching it all over several times more. THIS is the kind of short movie I like to see, even if it isn't near perfect, it still more than does the job of entertaining that which is most important..... ME! Heh heh

That's the insanely abridged version. I wanted to get into how awesome your logo was, the actually funny dialogue (Well... at least I found it funny...), and how awesomely cool it was when the DKC2 MIDI started up right before he, well.... does some stuff that should be spoilerized. The 2d bits, while sometimes purely awesome, other times they were just odd... My favorite was the 5-framish 'uh oh' face near the end, that was GUED.

I was surprised how you actually got MARIO to look like MARIO, and did it seemingly relatively easily. The 'transformation' bit looked nearly seamless, kudos to that. Heh, I guess the same could go for Bowser, too.

But yeah, what's with the ending... YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO SAY, "Yeah, well... the Princess is in another castle"!!!11 Heh, I'll let it slide THIS time.
